Deconstructed sushi in a bowl! It's fresh, it's customizable, and the staff has always been friendly and personable.
It was just okay. The location on the plus 15 was a bit tucked away, but I searched for it and found it. The size of the bowl was a good size, but I found the prices to be more than other poke places I've been to. Options for the toppings were limited to 4 items, and if you were to add the premium items, it's additional charge, which is fine, but with only 4 free items, you're kinda forced to add the premium add on's. The white rice wasn't very fresh when I ordered my bowl. I found it hard and dry and needs sauce to be able to digest it. The fish was just okay, but when you mix spicy mayo to all the salmon and tuna, it really is just very saucy fish. A few pieces that I had in the bowl were very stringy and cannot be chewed. Overall, not a great bowl of poke and very highly unlikely will go back.
I wish there were a few more toppings, but always a great place to eat. Must go early, they run out of stuff quick!
so delicious, and the staff there have a great vibe, I had ther regular one spicy and one salmon with spicy mayo and white rice, will be back!
Went here this week with some co-workers. The food is incredibly tasty and healthy. To me it feels like Sushi meets Chipotle, which might be the best thing to ever happen to +15 dining. The price point is very reasonable, too. For $12 I got two heaping scoops of Ahi, a ton of toppings, 1/2 an avocado and some crab. Everyone I was with has been raving about it since; cannot wait to go back.
Kona does Poke right. The founders did their research and it shows. The ingredients are fresh, well balanced, and well prepared. I've been here twice now, and both times it was enjoyable. The staff are super friendly. I would suggest mixing the lava sauce with the house sauce when you do visit. Would highly recommend checking it out (there is a second location coming soon in the Versus building on 10th Avenue).Hopefully the new beltline location has evening hours. Otherwise, this place is fantastic.
Great to see some new options like this in Calgary. Place is most excellent. A must try for a quick and healthy lunch.
Good experience trying this place randomly for lunch. Look forward to going back and trying a different combination of ingredients! My one wish was for some house offered dishes. Having not had much poke, which I presume is the case for many Calgarians, I wished there was something i could just order rather having to decide what combination of ingredients I wanted.
Build myself a great bowl here!
The portion was small and over priced (we had to eat at another restaurant afterwards and we’re pretty small eaters). There was barely any meat. There wasn’t a good balance as the employee gave the same amount or more of jalapeños (like a handful) as other vegetables. It was too little of other veggies and way too much jalapeños. Even my bf who eats spicy food daily felt that all we could taste were the jalapeños. Unfortunately, I won’t return.
By far my favourite place for poke that I've found downtown. I'm a hungry guy and I appreciate the large portions. And all the seafood options I like. Octopus, salmon, spicy mix, yum!
Pretty much what you would expect of a poke chain.
The staff here are absolutely wonderful. Kona Poke prides itself on having staff members who love to make their customers happy, and they do EXACTLY that and more. The customer service industry lacks in so many ways, I find, and I am often disappointed at how many people seem like they just dislike people and are displeased with their jobs. At Kona, their wonderful staff lineup help you along the way to choose out of all their fresh, delicious food options. If you're new, they kindly point you in all the right directions and never make you feel rushed or inexperienced. The food, like I said, is all VERY fresh and tastes great. I call it, a "feel-good meal". Thanks Kona Poke for choosing quality humans to represent you, and a simple, yet powerful food menu that was made to satisfy!
Love this place! I go all the time. They seem to have nailed a good sushi lunch. The service continues to improve and they're getting better at serving the crowds.
Good quality poke bowl at a very reasonable price
Nice place, but they need more variety and pricing options.
I love coming here, and always enjoy the food. I have just noticed the times have changed from 11-130pm when they normally were open late until 9pm. It was super convenient to have the longer hours if my lunch went later and or I wanted it for dinner. The staff are super friendly but its sad to see the price go up because of min. Wage snd the times shorten significantly. I hardly have the time to go anymore. :(
These gentleman have an appreciation for taste and flavour! If you're looking for more out of your dull lunch or dinner routine and willing to try something new and fresh, head over to Kona Poke.
All the other reviews are right to rave about this place. It was absolutely delicious! The regular size with two scoops of protein was surprisingly filling. I had it with extra of avocado and crab and ended up paying around 13$.The line up went by very quick. The place may be a bit tricky to find if you don't work on that side of DT and are not familiar with that +15.
Very tasty and fresh. Has great options of toppings and selections of fish.
In all fairness I don't know what the food is like because at 1:15 PM they were "sold out" of all rice (make some more?) and salmon. So, we left and went to the 100 other places better prepared to have us spend $30+ for food. But a star for staff friendliness.
Delicious place to eat, fun and relaxed place to work!
Where is the menu on the website? And nutritional details of the menu items, etc. ? Delicious food and seemingly healthy... I'd like to know what's in the sauce though ;)
Staff was not friendly. Told them it was my first time there, they had nothing helpful to say. Manager had to remind employee on the status of food that they had 'in stock'.Looked like they were counting every morsel of food they gave out. Literally watched employee put 2 slivers of chives in my bowl. Got up-charged on things they didn't tell me about. Sauce/food was good. Price was high. Service was bad.
It's started very well but now I am missing the quality it has in the beginning. Moreover we have more and better option at a low price available.
There is a very limited selection for good affordable sushi downtown. While this isn't exactly sushi, it does a great job satisfying the craving. The fish is fresh, the rice is hot and you get a good portion for what you pay. I will definitely being coming back here in the future.
So good! Awesome and simple. Also a great price for what you get! Will be back again and again.
Good healthy eat for lunchtime in +15
Kona Poke is by far superior to any other Poke businesses in Calgary. Just make sure you visit the 10 Avenue location and not the downtown one. After waiting in line and having my bowl made I asked for “lots of Wasabi mayo”, I turned away to pay and as I grabbed my bowl saw that it was smothered in orange sauce. I asked (knowing the answer) if that was wasabi mayo and was countered with “oh oops I thought you said spicy mayo, I guess I could make you a new one if you need”. I’m a pretty passive person and they had just used the last of three of my ingredients, and there was an extremely large line formed behind me so I said “it’s fine, I’ll take it”. No further apology, nothing at all to rectify the situation (since I’d already paid). It’s unfortunate because I eat at the 10 Avenue location at least twice a week and they are awesome. But, I will never be back to the downtown one.
Best poke this side of the islands !! Hours need to be a tad more flexible
Very nice portion, fast and friendly service and the lady serving me helped by making suggestions. Everything was fresh and delicious.
Good flavour, reasonable size. The staff is friendly, it was my first time, and he walked me through the whole process and gave me a sample of the dressing to be sure I’ll like it before mixing it in
Delicious option when you like sushi. Great fresh food and lots of options for additional toppings.
Not the fanciest presentation or garnishes, but the best fish down town 100% . My go to.
First time having Poke ever, after waiting 30mins in line, I would say it was worth it. It was basically a sashimi salad with a nice spicy mayo sauce. The price of a Large poke with a scope of crab meat and avocado was pushing almost $15.
Fast and healthy lunch option. Good value and friendly staff.
It's a seemingly healthy and tasty lunch option, but there are some things which one should consider:*Is the fish sustainably caught/farmed? No information is available on this at the restaurant or on their website.*Calorie content of the food is not available. *Value is not quite there. Could be improved with a bit more emphasis on the above.
Food was great and service was decently fast considering the lineup.
The food is delicious and fresh everyday. Love the vibe, and love the staff. Well done!
Great food. More like a Japanese flavoured salad but still really good
The food here is very good however they recently implemented a price increase of 1.25$ per bowl, which I think is excessive. I understand minimum wage went up but your extra costs could have been covered off with a much lesser price increase per bowl. The food was already priced on the higher end of what id like to pay for a quick lunch and you have surpassed what I believe is reasonable. Im dissappointed to say I won't be returning at this price point.
Went with a bunch of coworkers and we all enjoyed it. The staff was super friendly, the line was long but not too bad at 11:30 (worse at noon) and the food was quite good! They let you mix brown or sushi rice with greens which is nice. The brown rice was a bit hard. Prices are alright and it's good to have a second Poke option in town. Will be back again.
Great service, food was well-priced, considering the alternatives in the area. My advice is to try the Kona Ponzu, delicious! Good to see some healthier options downtown.
Fast, friendly, efficient staff. Decent line for lunch but not bad. The bowl was just sort of ok in my opinion. Even with the spicer of the sauces there I wasn't really impressed with the flavor. Several bites of tuna had a metallic taste that was off putting. The large bowl wasn't particularly large. Overall an alright healthier option for lunch downtown, but I won't be rushing back.
Good service! Went to Calgary for a conference and they hosted our group of 12. Good food as well.
So yummy, I love the options and the small portion is a great size !!
Poké is a great dish stuffed full of delicious and complementary ingredients. Kona nails these down excellently. The price here is better than what you would pay at a lot of other restaurants with Poké in the menu.
I love the place! Staff are so friendly and the food is great.
Portions were bigger than I was expecting for the price and it was a solid meal. I didnt leave feeling hungry at all. If you are in the area this is worth checking out
Went in at 7:00 on a Tuesday, hour before closing. Were out of many items including brown rice and salmon. Their still working through some new business issues. I will not return for a couple months until things are worked out.
